Mental Health is a Universal Right.

World Mental Health Day is observed on October 10th each year. It is a day dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues, promoting mental well-being, and advocating for the importance of mental health care and support.


The day provides an opportunity to break the stigma surrounding mental health problems and encourages open discussions about mental health concerns. It also emphasizes the need for access to quality mental health services and resources for individuals who may be struggling with mental health issues.


It's important to remember that mental health is a crucial aspect of overall well-being, and World Mental Health Day serves as a reminder of the significance of taking care of one's mental health and supporting others in their mental health journeys.


Good mental health enables us to cope with life's challenges, form meaningful relationships, and make sound decisions. It's the key to emotional well-being, resilience, and self-esteem. Neglecting mental health can lead to a range of issues, from stress and anxiety to more severe conditions like depression and anxiety disorders, which can affect every facet of our lives, including our physical health and productivity. By prioritizing mental health, we not only enhance our own quality of life but also contribute to healthier communities and societies. Open discussions, awareness, and access to mental health services are vital in recognizing and addressing the importance of mental health for the well-being of individuals and society as a whole.


Participating in craniofacial camps can offer a myriad of mental health benefits to individuals facing craniofacial differences. These specialized camps provide a supportive and inclusive environment where participants can connect with others who share similar experiences, fostering a sense of belonging and reducing feelings of isolation. Through group activities, discussions, and shared challenges, camp attendees often develop stronger self-esteem and self-confidence as they learn to embrace their unique identities. Moreover, interacting with peers and mentors who understand their struggles can alleviate anxiety and depression commonly associated with craniofacial conditions. Additionally, these camps offer valuable opportunities for individuals to improve their communication and social skills, ultimately enhancing their ability to navigate interpersonal relationships outside of the camp setting. Overall, craniofacial camps play a crucial role in nurturing the mental well-being of participants by promoting acceptance, self-worth, and resilience.


Camps can create an environment that fosters personal growth, resilience, and positive self-esteem. The combination of social interaction, skill-building, and exposure to new experiences makes summer camp an excellent platform for promoting mental well-being among participants.


FACES plays a crucial role in providing not only practical assistance but also emotional and psychosocial support to individuals and families affected by craniofacial differences. By addressing both the medical and psychosocial aspects of craniofacial conditions, FACES contributes to the overall mental health and well-being of those they serve, promoting resilience and a positive self-image among individuals with craniofacial difference.


As a clinician, craniofacial client and craniofacial advocate; the benefits of integrative care and community are fundamental in fostering optimal mental health.
